Tonight we decided to hike in the Rattlesnake area which is 10 minutes from home. The trail follows a creek the whole way.

Liam and Julian had the most fun throwing rocks into the river. While sitting next to the river a deer came down to eat and drink. We also saw a rainbow, a bunch of joggers and some bikers.

Oh, and we spotted a bear.

He was hanging around high on the mountain side right off the trail when Tanner spotted him. No one else was around, so I turned into mama bear mode and kept me and the boys back while Tanner hung out a little longer. He came down the mountain and crossed the trail. We came back up to see him root around for bugs in a log, and then he turned and sprinted into the bushed and the river.

Tanner was thoroughly relaxed after the evening was over and I'm still a nervous wreck. Now I'll always be checking our back and needless to say my next purchase is some precautionary bear mace. You don't want to be in a position where you scare one of those things and not be with it. Just ask Jack Hanna!

You better not hike that trail by yourself! I can't believe how close it was.

Cute little critter if he was in a zoo--but now somehow I think the words 'sleepless nights' have new meaning for me... Reminds me of going to Yellowstone when I was little.

Oh man! I wish I was there. It reminds me of the time I thought I saw a polar bear in the mountains. Upon closer inspection it turned out to be a white cow.
