Oh No You Di-n't

Oh yes we did, and it's awesome.
I have wanted to do this for 5 months and finally mustard up the courage... ha ha! Get it?!

Go paint your own now!

Step 1. Move your piano downstairs and outside after making nice men haul it up the stairs when you first moved in (sorry about that guys!).

Step 2. Buy some brown craft paper and painter's tape in the paint section of your wal mart and tape off anywhere dust can get. Remind yourself that any color is better than a beat up color and begin to sand with 60 grit paper.

Step 3. Wipe off most of the dust with a dry cloth, then use "tack cloth" (not found at wal mart) to wipe the rest off (use tack cloth to make the finish super smooth and bump free).

Step 4. Prime with Zinsser Primer (found @ Lowe's) using a foam brush to get a smooth finish. This primer sticks to anything and covers great. I've used this before & it is awesome. It says you don't have to sand, but I sand because I care.

Step 5. Let dry for how long the primer says then sand with 150 grit sand paper. Tack cloth if off then prime and sand again. This makes it so you don't have to paint 8 coats of color. Worth it!

Step 6: Have your husband pick out the color and go to town (use a foam brush). Most people use a high gloss something or other, but high gloss is hard to control so use 1 qt of sherwin william's interior acrylic latex satin finish, then finish it with a glossy protective coat. Sand with with 220 grit sand paper in between the color coats, and tack cloth it off. Wait for it to dry. Do 3 coats.

If you're still reading (this is kind of for me in case I refinish anything else. Also, can you tell my hubby is working late tonight?!), finish with 2 or 3 coats of shiny protective finish in clear satin. You also really need to wait the full dry time that's suggested. Our piano has been in the garage for weeks people!
Liam hopped in this picture and posed like this.

While painting the piano Liam walked in and named it the banana piana. I like it!

The first song you should play on it:

Look at the keys
Look how they're not red or blue
And all the sanding you do
Yeah they were all yellow.

If I remember right, that piano is about 70 years old. Sure doesn't look it now! Great job. Could you come to my house? I have several projects that call for someone as handy as you are. :)

I love this! It looks so good.

What's funny is when I was like 7, my parents bought a mustard colored piano and we took off all the paint and stained it brown. It was a big family joke about the ugly mustard colored piano!
but Now that 20 years have passed, I LOVE it!!!

I love it. That took a lot of work to do all those coats, but the finish is like butter! (Insert Yellow joke here)

Seriously awesome. I bet you want to stand out in your yard and yellow ver to your neighbors that they should come see it. So much hard work. Amazing.

Do you have the music stand - holder - whatever. If you don't get me the lengths and heights and I'll make one and bring it up later. Great job
